1. Scope of this policy

This policy covers the Tax Genie Android application ("the App"), developed and published by an individual developer ("we," "us"). The App is a personal income tax estimator for Sri Lanka: it asks you questions about your income and shows you a calculated tax breakdown. It does not file anything on your behalf, does not connect to any government system, and does not require you to register or log in.

We don't sell any product or service through the App, and the App itself has no in-app purchases, subscriptions, or paid tiers — it is supported entirely by advertising.

2. Information we do not collect

We want to be specific about this rather than vague, since "we respect your privacy" on its own doesn't mean much. We do not:

The App does store your last few calculations locally on your own device (so you can glance back at them), using Android's on-device storage. That data is never transmitted to us and is deleted automatically if you clear the App's data or use the in-app "Clear history" option.

3. Information collected for advertising (Google AdMob)

The App displays ads using Google AdMob (part of Google Ads). To select, deliver, and measure ads, Google's AdMob SDK — running inside the App — may automatically collect and process information such as:

CategoryExamples
Device & advertising identifiersAndroid Advertising ID (GAID), device model, operating system version
Network informationIP address, general (city/region-level) location inferred from it, mobile carrier
App interaction dataAd impressions, clicks, and basic in-app events used for ad delivery and frequency capping

This collection is performed by Google, under Google's own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and its policy for publishers and advertisers — not ours. We do not receive your individual advertising ID, IP address, or any user-level ad data; we only see aggregated, anonymized reporting (e.g. "X ad impressions this month, estimated revenue Y").

4. How that information is used

The only use of the data described in Section 3 is to serve and measure advertising inside the App, and to detect invalid traffic/fraud. We do not use it, and have not configured AdMob to use it, for:

5. Sharing, sale, and remarketing

We do not sell your personal information for money to anyone. The only party your device communicates with for advertising purposes is Google, as the operator of the AdMob network embedded in the App — this is inherent to how mobile ad-serving works, not an additional disclosure we make on top of it.

Personalized ads and "sharing" under privacy law Depending on where you live, allowing Google's advertising SDK to process an advertising identifier for personalized ads may be classified in law as "sharing" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising — even though no payment is involved and we do not have access to the identifier ourselves. If you are a California resident, see Section 9 for how to opt out. If you are in the EU, UK, or EEA, see Section 10.

6. Data retention & security

Since we don't operate a server that stores your personal data, there is no central database of user information for us to retain, secure, or be breached. Calculation history lives only in the App's local storage on your device and is governed by your device's own security (lock screen, encryption, etc.) until you delete the App or clear its data. Any network requests the App makes (solely to fetch ads) use standard encrypted HTTPS connections.

7. Your choices & how to opt out

You can limit ad personalization at the device level, independent of any single app:

Turning ad personalization off means you'll still see ads (the App is ad-supported), but they'll be less tailored to you.

8. Children's privacy

Tax Genie is a personal income tax tool intended for general audiences, not for children. We do not knowingly direct the App at, or knowingly collect information from, children under 13 (or the relevant age of consent in your country). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us at the email below and we will address it.

9. California privacy rights (CalOPPA, CCPA/CPRA)

CalOPPA

CCPA / CPRA

If you are a California resident, you have the right to:

We do not sell personal information for monetary consideration. As noted in Section 5, Google's processing of advertising identifiers for personalized ads may meet the CCPA/CPRA's broad definition of "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out using the device-level and Google Account controls in Section 7. Because we don't hold personal data ourselves, requests to know/delete/correct data that Google has processed should also be directed to Google directly; we'll forward or assist with any request sent to prathieshnav@gmail.com and respond within 45 days as required by the CCPA (extendable by a further 45 days where the law allows).

10. EU/UK/EEA privacy rights (GDPR)

If you're in the EU, UK, or EEA, the General Data Protection Regulation (or UK GDPR) gives you the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, to object to processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

For the App's own (minimal) processing, we act as data controller — but there isn't personal data tied to you for us to act on, since nothing is sent to a server we control. For data processed by Google's AdMob SDK to serve ads, Google acts as an independent data controller under its own privacy policy and is responsible for obtaining any consent required under the EU's ePrivacy and data protection rules before personalizing ads to you. Where applicable, Google's data may be transferred to and processed in countries outside the EU/UK, under safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses — see Google's privacy policy for details.

To exercise any of these rights regarding our own processing, contact us at the email below.

11. "Do Not Track" signals

Some browsers and devices send a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. There's no common industry standard for how apps should interpret DNT, so — like most mobile apps — Tax Genie does not currently respond to it differently. The opt-out controls in Section 7 work regardless of any DNT setting.

12. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and post the revised version at this same address. If a change is significant, we'll also note it inside the App. We'd encourage checking back occasionally rather than assuming nothing has changed.

13. Contact us

For any question about this policy, a request to exercise a privacy right, or anything else related to Tax Genie, email prathieshnav@gmail.com. As this is an individually-developed app, requests are handled personally — we aim to respond within 30 days for general inquiries, and within the statutory timeframe for any formal CCPA or GDPR request.
